Starting 1st September 2017, the department of immigration will start issuing the Kenyan East African Passport (the new Passport). The launch of the new passport is amongst the many measures that are currently being implemented by the country in order to realise the free movement of persons in Kenya and the East African Community (EAC) at large. The launch of the new passport is an important step towards achieving the full integration of the region and specifically the operationalization of the EAC common market. Every Kenyan citizen is expected to migrate into this new system in a span of two years.
